HOLY COMMUNION

This “Holy Communion” painting came to life during the worship truck outreach in Oudshoorn South Africa on 16 October 2021.

I continued this painting almost 1 year later at the Intercontinental Praise & Worship Event hosted by David Verhulst from Roaring Lions Ministries on 8 October 2022. And now during Easter Sunday at 9 April 2023 I felt the prompting by Holy Spirit to finish this painting.

This painting depicts a hand holding a glass of wine representing the blood covenant and holy communion element when we part-take in the holy communion in remembrance of Jesus’s sacrifice and resurrection at the cross as well that He is coming back for His bride.

There is a white dove on the rim of the glass. The white dove symbolizes The Holy Spirit. When Jesus was baptized a white dove descended representing the Holy Spirit. “Matthew 3:16 (Mark 1:10; Luke 3:22; John 1:32)

And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him”.

As born-again Christians we receive the Holy Spirit, The Spirit of God, who now lives inside of us. “Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again’ (John 3:5-8).

This is why Jesus said that it is good that He should go because The Holy Spirit would be available for everyone who becomes born of His Spirit. “Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you” (John 16:7, NKJV)

The backdrop is a table of gold-leaf and an African sunset over the ocean.

The ocean represents the nations. I believe that this painting represents salvation for the nations. Holy Spirit is inviting all of us to part-take of His cup of His suffering to receive life eternal. His love leads us to repentance. How awesome that He died so that when He was raised from death and ascended into heaven He send His Spirit to bring us His resurrection life.

John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (NIV).

“While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins”(Matt 26:26-28, NIV).
