CRUCIFIXION | BAPTISM OF HOLY SPIRIT & FIRE

It truly has been such an honour to work on this painting. My client handed me a piece of paper with a few words on it and asked me to paint 3 paintings and to let Holy Spirit guide me in the process. The three words that jumped out to me were Jesus on the Cross, white dove, and red. I saw the picture clearly. I needed to paint Jesus on the cross with the white dove concealed in the clouds behind Him representing His Holy Spirit and fire.

I had an experience once where the mountain was on fire, and we were on the point of almost evacuating. The fire made the sky bloodred and one could not make out what time of day or night it was. This experience made me feel that that is what it might look like when God returns.

This painting reminds me strongly of His return. It symbolises the baptism of The Holy Spirit through the symbolism of the white dove, and the baptism of fire. Jesus’ crucifixion where He gave up His body and His Spirit and died so that those who believe in Him and accept Him as their Lord and saviour receive His Spirit and eternal life, also carries the promise of His return.

It is the greatest act of love that He laid down His life and thereby paid the penalty for sin so that we don’t need to pay the price but can receive His free gift of His redeeming love.

As I painted this painting, I listened to worship music and random songs would pop up. The amazing thing is that I would be painting Jesus’s skin and then the song Closer Than My Skin by Steve Swanson would play.

The day that I worked on the fire and the dove in the clouds the song Baptism of Fire by Corey Russell from the album Kingdom Come (Lift up Your Heads) [Live] (feat, Rich Di Cas, Lydia Di Cas) David’s tent/ Live, and Holy Spirit, Please Come by Freddy Hayler from the album Song of Angels played.

And so, this amazing journey continued with songs such as Crown of thorns by Garden / Soaking Music and Selah/ By His Wounds by Kelanie Gloeckler from the album You are the radiance.

As I was painting Jesus’s feet, Here I am Jesus by Adam Gates from the album Nights at the Big House played and the song line that jumped out was “Let me kiss Your feet”.

To crown it all as I was close to finishing the painting these were the songs that played: Isaiah 53 by Rick Pino / Kiss The Son. This song contains the lyrics: “By His stripes, we are healed…”, and “May The Lamb who was slain receive the reward of His suffering”. When my client saw the finished painting for the first time, he shared that I had exactly painted what someone else had written down as a promise from God for him after a Sozo session. This person saw Jesus on the cross, a white dove, and fire.

What can I say? His Holy Spirit is alive, and it is such an awesome privilege to partner with Him in the creative process. He has been tangibly present throughout the process, making Himself known through every song as I painted this painting.

We serve a living God. And…He is coming again!!!

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him” (John 16-17, NIV).

“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds, we are healed” (Is 53:5 NIV).
