DRINK OF THE LIVING WATER

As I am working on the fire background of this painting commission, I hear the lyrics playing “Let Your fire fall on us” and listen to Psalm 62:11 / The Room.

The first thing I woke up to was a link to a wedding video. It was such a godly wedding glorifying God through worship, prayers of blessings over the couple, and taking holy communion, I was almost expecting an altar call as well.

Then I read about the marriage covenant in my daily devotional and the wise virgins who filled up their lamps with oil, the tabernacle of our spirit, soul, and body, and how God enthrones our spirit “house” when we become born again. Then it spoke of when we become born again, we come into a covenant relationship with God, just as marriage symbolises this covenant relationship.

As I am painting, Holy Spirit is speaking to me about His return and how He is coming back for His bride.

He is the Living Water who purifies us, cleanses us, fulfills us, and fills us to overflow so that others can be nourished as well.

John 7:37-38 says: “On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them” (NIV).

I read in Leviticus 23 about the appointed feasts and the Feast of Tabernacles or Sukkot being the final of the three Jewish feasts which is celebrated at the end of the final harvest. It is also a feast pointing to the second coming of Christ.

People waved palm branches during the Passover ushering in the coming of the Messiah during Sukkot. It points to the Saviour’s role as the light of the world, the living waters, and the King of Kings. It is the third great annual pilgrimage festival when the Jewish people gather together in Jerusalem not only to remember God’s provision in the wilderness but also to look ahead to that promised Messianic age when all nations will flow to Jerusalem to worship the Lord.

Coney Russel/ Holiness sings about a generation of clean hands and pure hearts as I paint the hand holding the earthen jar Heather Clark’s song Overcome-Live plays as Holy Spirit speaks about fire, touch, and purification.

The last element that I added to this painting is the water and some colourful reflection highlights.

I absolutely loved painting this overflow and I painted it free flow by His Spirit, just as living waters flow from Him, I allowed the brush strokes to dance and flow over the canvas.

He invites us to abide in Him, to fill up our earthen vessels with His Word, His Spirit for then we will never thirst. He invites us like the woman at the well to come drink of The Living Water (John 4:1-42). He invites us to give our all like the widow gave her last to the prophet Elijah, so that God can bring the overflow (1 Kings 17:7-16). God calls us to be prepared and carry the extra oil like the virgins waiting for the bridegroom to come to the wedding feast (Matt 25:1-13).

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life” (John 4:13, NIV).
