HOLY COMMUNION PRINT

Holy Communion is a beautiful depiction of a hand holding a glass of wine and a white dove landing on the rim of the glass against the backdrop of a sunset over the ocean. I used gold-leaf for the table top.

ABOUT

I started the Holy Communion painting during the worship truck outreach in Oudtshoorn, South Africa on 16 October 2021.

About a year later I continued this painting  at the Intercontinental Praise & Worship Event hosted by David Verhulst from Roaring Lions Ministries on 8 October 2022. Finally Holy Spirit prompted me to finish Holy Communion during Easter Sunday on 9 April 2023

This painting depicts a hand holding a glass of wine representing the blood covenant and holy communion element when we part-take in the holy communion in remembrance of Jesus’s sacrifice and resurrection at the cross as well that He is coming back for His bride.

 

The Dove

I painted a white dove in flight, descending on the rim of the glass. Evidently the white dove symbolizes The Holy Spirit. At Jesus’s baptism a white dove descended representing the Holy Spirit. (Mark 1:10; Luke 3:22; John 1:32)

 ^“As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him”. (Matthew 3:16, NIV)

Consequently as born-again Christians we receive the Holy Spirit, The Spirit of God, who now lives inside of us. To partake of holy communion is a public declaration thereof.

“Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.(John 3:5-8, NIV).

This is why Jesus said that it is good that He should go because The Holy Spirit would be available for everyone who becomes born of His Spirit.

“Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you” (John 16:7, NKJV)

 

The Gift of His Spirit

The backdrop is a table of gold-leaf and an African sunset over the ocean.

The ocean represents the nations. The swirl of the wine that represents His blood in the glass, looks like a wave as well. I believe that this Holy Communion painting represents salvation for the nations. Holy Spirit is inviting all of us to part-take of His cup of His suffering to receive life eternal. His love leads us to repentance. How awesome that He died, rose from death and ascended into heaven to send His Spirit to bring us His resurrection life.

John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (NIV).

“While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins” (Matt 26:26-28, NIV).

It is my heart that as you partake of the Holy Communion, Holy Spirit will inundate you with His presence.
