DRINK OF THE LIVING WATER PRINT

Drink of the Living Water is a beautiful colourful image of a hand holding a red clay jar as it pours water into a golden bowl which overflows. The colourful red and yellow fiery background highlights the foreground image.

 

THE BACKSTORY

My day started with a wedding video. It was such a godly wedding glorifying God through worship, prayers of blessings over the couple, and taking holy communion. At this point, I was almost expecting an altar call as well.

Then I read about the marriage covenant in my daily devotional and the wise virgins who filled their lamps with oil, the tabernacle of our spirit, soul, and body, and how God enthrones our spirit “house” when we become born again. In the same light the devotional emphasized that when we become born again, we come into a covenant relationship with God, just as marriage symbolizes this covenant relationship.

As I painted Drink of the Living Water Holy Spirit continuously reminded me of His return and that He is coming back for His bride.

 

The Journey Continues

As I work on the fire background of Drink of The Living Water painting commission, I listen to the background lyrics: “Let Your fire fall on us”.

Next Lize Hadassah Wiid sings the lyrics “return to me and I wash you clean”,…This is beyond exhilarating. How awesome that Holy Spirit concerns Himself to highlight every detail of the painting process. Truly it is so refreshing that He reveals Himself in the songs and every message and meaning in what is birthed on the canvas.

He is the Living Water who purifies us, cleanses us, fulfils us, and fills us to overflow so that others can be nourished as well.

I read the following text: “A walk with me is about walking in my footsteps on the path that I walked, which is the Via Dolorosa. This is how you know Me in a relationship, by abiding in who I AM, and the way I walked is a flow of who I AM. Study my Word and learn about my character because then you will know My heartbeat…” (Sarah Van Vuuren).

 

Overflow

Drink of the Living Water symbolizes the overflow of the Living Water.  Water flows from the pitcher and spills over the rim of the golden bowl. The Word tells us that whoever drinks of the Living Water will not thirst. (John 4:13-14). Concurrently the Word tells us that rivers of living water will flow through us. When God touches us and fills us there is a supernatural overflow that automatically takes place to nourish others as well.

John 7:37-39 says: “On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them. By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.” (NIV).

 

Confirmation

Next Holy Spirit led me to read Leviticus 23. This text speaks about the appointed feasts and the Feast of Tabernacles or Sukkot. This is the final of the three Jewish feasts which is celebrated at the end of the final harvest. It is also a feast pointing to the second coming of Christ. How is that for confirmation?

People waved palm branches during the Passover ushering in the coming of the Messiah during Sukkot. It points to the Saviour’s role as the light of the world, the living waters, and the King of Kings. It is the third great annual pilgrimage festival when the Jewish people gather together in Jerusalem. They gather to remember God’s provision in the wilderness. Sukkot also looks ahead to that promised Messianic age when all nations will flow to Jerusalem to worship the Lord.

 

The Love-dance

Coney Russel/ Holiness sings about a generation of clean hands and pure hearts as I paint the hand holding the earthen jar. Then the love-dance continues. Heart-warmingly, Holy Spirit confirms every part of the painting through songs of worship as I paint the various elements of the Drink of the Living Water painting. Significantly, the next song is Heather Clark’s song Overcome-Live. As my paintbrush kisses the canvas to paint the flames, hands and water, Holy Spirit speaks about fire, touch, and purification.

The last element that crowns this painting is the water and some colourful reflection highlights.

I absolutely loved painting this overflow and I painted it free flow by His Spirit. Just as living waters flow from Him, I allowed the brush strokes to dance and flow over the canvas.

Lets dance,…let the paint flow, one step, one stroke at a time, as the music plays, the picture unfolds…

 

Invitation

Our father invites us to abide in Him, and to fill up our earthen vessels with His Living Word which is His Spirit. When we meditate on His Word and abide in Him, when we drink of the Living Water we will never thirst. He invites us like the woman at the well to come drink of The Living Water. (John 4:1-42) He invites us to give our all like the widow gave her last to the prophet Elijah, so that God can bring the overflow. (1 Kings 17:7-16) God calls us to be prepared and carry the extra oil like the virgins waiting for the bridegroom to come to the wedding feast. (Matt 25:1-13)

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life”. (John 4:13, NIV)
